MoP® – Portfolio Management

Our highly experienced portfolio consulting team, enable the management of portfolios through the rapid development and delivery of industry leading portfolio management frameworks, which utilise a set of principles, techniques and practices to help organisations ensure their programs and projects contribute to strategic objectives and achieve maximum value.

What is Portfolio Management?

Portfolio management helps organisations make decisions about implementing the right changes to their business as usual activity via projects and programmes. Portfolio management is not concerned with the detailed management of these projects and programmes; rather, it approaches the management of change projects and programmes from a strategic viewpoint.  It could be defined as “a coordinated collection of strategic processes and decisions that together enable the most effective balance of organizational change and business as usual.”

Rather than representing a new discipline, portfolio management seeks to build on, and better coordinate, existing processes such as strategic planning, investment appraisal and project and programme management. Portfolio management is not concerned with the detailed management of these projects and programmes; rather, it approaches the management of change projects and programmes from a strategic viewpoint, focusing on the key issues outlined above.

The PM Solutions Australia delivered MoP® (Management of Portfolios), provides senior executives and those responsible for planning and implementing change, with a set of principles, techniques and practices to introduce or re-energise portfolio management. Our MoP®  services, better assist organisations to answer the fundamental question:

Are we sure this investment is right for us and how will it contribute to our strategic objectives?

  • Investment is the key word because portfolio management is about investing in the right change initiatives and implementing them correctly?
  • Are we doing these things right?
  • Are we realising all the value and benefits – in terms of more effective services and efficiency savings from the changes we are implementing?

The model below shows how MoP® assists in answering these questions and brings together the key activities required to successfully define and deliver a portfolio of change.

3
Can MoP® be used "simply" in your organisation?

AXELOS MoP® has been developed to provide senior executives and decision-makers with an overview of portfolio management – the principles upon which it is based, some of the techniques used, and how to get started and sustain progress.

MoP is closely aligned to the programme and project management methodologies outlined in MSP® and PRINCE2®, but focuses on the management of the change that is delivered by formalised project and programme management, rather than the individual initiatives.

MoP® holistically addresses the key concepts of portfolio management, its benefits to an organisation and how it fits in with current business processes.
